Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the prestigious trophy on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the final seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
